ST. LOUIS ARTISTS PREMIERE NEW COLLOBRATIVE EFFORT

 

Music and Magic Join to Create a New Form of Interactive Theater

 

On March 30, 2010, at 7:00pm, members of the St. Louis-based musical group Harmony (Steve Galati, Jim Ford and Donita Bauer) will share the stage with master illusionist Keith Jozsef, for the debut performance of Illusion and Harmony: The Confluence of Magic and Music.  This collaborative endeavor will premier on the stage of the Sheldon Concert Hall, as part of the venue’s “Notes From Home” series, which offers local artists exposure on the theater’s main stage.  The artists will perform a set of material separately, at first, to establish their individual talents, which will lead to a combined performance of music, lyric, and magic. Tickets are $10 at the door.

 

Harmony singer/songwriter Jim Ford, a former teacher to Keith Jozsef at CBC High School, approached his former pupil with the prospect of exploring the similarities in their seemingly different genres.  “The show is not simply about doing magic routines to music”, says Jozsef.  “We challenged ourselves to explore pieces from our respective repertoires, that shared the same context, rhythm, and emotion--and meld them into new works, where the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts.”  They will be unveiling new material that they created especially for this event.

 

Harmony began when Galati and Ford paired up in the early 1980’s after sharing the stage as part of Steve’s wedding band Pacific.  Over the years they have performed for numerous venues and events and this past August held a CD release party at the Sheldon for their recording, “Shelter from the Storm”.

 

Master illusionist Keith Jozsef has been enchanting his audiences for the past 19 years.  The youngest person ever to be elected a regional president of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Jozsef has been voted magician of the year 5 times.  He performs regularly for corporate and private events.
