ABOUT THE CONCERT:

The first section of the concert  featured music that inspired us as songwriters and musicians. We followed with the music from the new CD grouped in musical styles: folk, acoustic rock, ballads, bluegrass and blues. We had stories to tell about the origins of the songs and we invited the audience to sing along. Finally our guest musicians  performed one of their original pieces of music. It was a wonderful night to celebrate the many themes of life through song!

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

The cover of the CD was drawn by St. Louis artist, Aaron Ford. Aaron will graduate with an associates degree in art from Meramec College in December.

ABOUT THE GUEST MUSICIANS:

Darlene Luebbert: piano, violin and vocals. Darlene performed with the U. of Notre Dame Accepella choir and is the director of the St. Cecilia School music program.

Tom Knecht: lead guitar and vocals. Tom is a recording engineer and has been a member of many St. Louis bands over the years.

Joe Miller: acoustic and electric bass. Joe has been an active member of the local music scene over the years and is an engineer at a local TV station.

Jon Laufersweile: percusion. Jon's career started in high school with the Webster Groves Jazz band. He recently had a  stint in the popular band, The Bureau.

Rick Thum: sound and hammer dulcimer on 2 songs. Rick's interest in traditional music was sparked when he bought a hammered dulcimer on a whim and found himself in a three-piece folk band, Just Folks with Jim Ford and Paul Wehling. In 1991 Rick became co-owner of a large midwestern acoustic instrument shop. In 1994 he sold his interest in the shop to devote more time to being a traveling musician. He placed first at the 1994 Southwest Regional Dulcimer Contest and third in the 1995 National Championship at Winfield, Kansas. Rick was voted Best Performer and Favorite Teacher for several years running at the prestigious Evart Dulcimer Funfest. (The oldest and largest dulcimer festival in the nation.) He has shared the stage with Mike Seeger, The Tony Rice Unit, Steve Kaufman, Norman Blake, and Bryan Bowers and opened for John Hartford, Norman & Nancy Blake, and Leo Kottke. Rick is a popular teacher on the festival circuit and travels across the country playing solo and teaching at music festivals. He currently has three recordings; Hammered Fiddle Tunes, A Reason to Dance, and A Front Porch Waltz. Mel Bay Publishing Inc. has published the companion book to Hammered Fiddle Tunes. Rick is currently manufacturing hammered dulcimers (Rick Thum Dulcimers), which can be seen at a retailer near you.
